6 Steps To Doubling Your Income And Time-Off In Your Online Home-Based Business

Having taken the step to becoming full-time online marketing business owners or perhaps just starting in the Industry, you might be wondering how to go about your daily routine in the right manner for maximising productivity while maintaining a good work/life balance.

The following 6 steps to doubling you income and doubling your time off should help you on your way to establishing that healthy routine.

These steps were originally collated by Brian Tracy in his book “Focal Point”.

STEP 1_ IDENTIFY THE TASKS THAT CONTRIBUTE THE GREATEST VALUE TO YOUR WORK

This is also called the 80/20 rule, in which 20% of your tasks contribute to 80% or more of the value of your work.  These are what we call the Money Making Activities (or MMA).

Therefore it is essential to establish which tasks bring your business the most results and dedicate the majority of your time working on those tasks.

Making a list of what needs to be accomplished every day (in order of priority) is a good start to identifying your businesses MMA.

Do not allow yourself to be distracted until you have performed your MMA for the day.

STEP 2_ IDENTIFY THE TASKS THAT CONTRIBUTE LITTLE TO YOUR WORK

Going back to the 80/20 rule, these are the 80% of tasks that contribute hardly any value to your business.  These are the Non-Money Making Activities (or NMA). By Non-Money Making Activities tend to be: reading and replying to emails, answering calls, surfing the net, etc…

Unfortunately, we tend to spend a lot more time in the day focussing on these tasks than actually doing any productive work.

If you can, begin today by outsourcing the tasks that can be performed by others.  It may even be possible to eliminate some tasks altogether.

If this is not at all possible, reduce the amount of time you spend on these low-value but often time-consuming activities.  Allocate a specific time in the day for these activities.

Every Top Producer in the Online Marketing Industry does not spend more than an hour a day returning calls and emails.  Sometimes it may even take a few days for a Top Producer to get back to you if it does not fit in to his MMA.

STEP 3_ USE THE “GRAND SLAM” FORMULA TO INCREASE YOUR OUTPUT WITH DRAMATIC RESULTS

The key to success here is to:

Simplify your work schedule,

Leverage your time,

Accelerate your response time and

Multiply your talents through others.

STEP 4_ SPEND ONE ENTIRE DAY A WEEK PURSUING OTHER INTERESTS OUTSIDE YOUR BUSINESS

You must really be discipline to do this. Often times new entrepreneurs have a tendency to work 24 hours a day on their business while neglecting their social life.

They feel guilty whenever they are not working on their business.  The irony is that those who do not take this scheduled break, quickly head towards a burn-out or negatively affecting their productivity.

During this precious “you” time, do not read, answer calls, write emails, work on your computer or do anything else related to work.

This is your time to recharge your batteries.  Take in some fresh air and let your brain refocus.

You will return to your desk the next day refreshed.

Never forget that you are more than just your business.

STEP 5_ START EXPANDING YOUR TIME OFF FROM ONE DAY, TO TWO DAYS, TO A LONG WEEKEND, ETC…

As you become comfortable with the idea of taking one day off a week, expand your time off gradually until you find you are allowing yourself two to four weeks of vacation a year.

Reorganise your business schedule so that time off becomes a major priority.

The more efficient and productive you become at your online marketing business, the more you will have time for vacationing, leisurely pursuits, etc…  Consequently, the more time off you take, the more you will enjoy your work and improve your efficiency and productivity.

You will have achieved a perfect life/work balance!

STEP 6_ START PAYING CLOSER ATTENTION TO YOUR HABITS

Become more conscious of yourself and of your actions.  Identify your business tasks carefully before you begin and pay attention to your mode of operations while you perform these activities.

By constantly remaining aware of yourself and of your actions while working, you will begin developing within you new habits of thought and action that will lead to even higher levels of productivity and performance.

A great training program I can recommend for increasing productivity is called “Wake-Up Productive” by Eben Pagan.  It is a 90 day program of video tutorials after which you will have learned to double your productivity.  You can purchase the program cheaply from Rapidshare.com

I highly recommend “Wake-Up Productive” if you think you need help restructuring our life in order to make your business succeed.

So remember these 6 simple steps to doubling your income and doubling your time off when establishing your work routine.  If put in to practice effectively, you will be amazed at how quickly you will see results in your online business and in your personal life.

How To Increase Results In Your Online Home-Based Business

Leverage is defined as a strategic advantage or the power to act effectively.  In business terms, it is the use of various financial instruments or borrowed capital, to increase the potential return of an investment.

With regards to your home-based online business, it is the power to get the most out of yourself…  to make the most of your strengths and abilities by utilising other people’s abilities which are complementary to your own.

Leverage allows you to achieve more than you ever thought you could.   It is largely responsible for the success of everyone from Donald Trump to the Internet Marketing Industry’s top producers.

There are 7 different types of Leverage you should develop in your internet marketing business.

OTHER PEOPLE’S KNOWLEDGE

Leveraging other people’s knowledge can save you weeks, if not months of hard toil…  not to mention a lot of money.

Sometimes just one piece of information can make a substantial difference in your business results.

Successful internet marketers are like sponges.  They are constantly scouring different information sources looking for ideas that will help them achieve their goals faster.

Make it a habit to always be looking for valuable insight for your business in books, audio books, magazines, online, conferences, etc…

Another great way to leverage other people’s knowledge is by working closely with your business mentor, i.e someone who has already achieved the results you wish to have, or any other successful business person you might know.

Use what they know to propel you forward!

OTHER PEOPLE’S ENERGY

Successful internet marketers are not afraid to delegate (or outsource) less important business tasks to other people.

This leaves the marketer more time to concentrate on the 20% of business activities that contribute to 80% of the value of the work (i.e. the highest payoff).

Instead of trying to master and be perfect in every area of your internet business why not outsource the tasks you are less good at or like to least to someone who already has those skills?  This could save you years of training and ultimately a lot of money.

Think of ways you can use other people’s energy to help maximise your own productivity in your marketing business.

OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY

This is a great one!

Developing your ability to borrow someone else’s money in order to accomplish goals which you couldn’t have achieve if you had saved up and invested your own money is very powerful.

Successful people always look for opportunities to borrow and invest money.  If you invest with someone else’s money, your Return On Investment (or ROI) is infinite as you have never invested any of your own money.  Your returns will be well beyond the cost of that money.

Robert Kiyosaki has talked extensively of the power of leveraging other people’s money in his “Rich Dad Poor Dad” series of books.

OTHER PEOPLE’S SUCCESSES

Studying the successes of the Top Producers in your online marketing business can save you a lot of time and trouble in the refinement of your marketing campaigns.

Those Top Producers, by paving the way before you, have normally paid the price in money, frustration and disappointment before achieving their current position in their companies.

Why go through it yourself?  Find out what they did to achieve their goals and copy their system.

OTHER PEOPLE’S FAILURES

Learning from other people’s failures is just as important as learning from other people’s successes.

Some of the greatest successes in history have come from studying other people’s failures!

Here’s a great example about how to learn from someone’s mistake.  Mike Koenigs creator of Traffic Geyser, a video distribution company used by top online marketers, once confided that he had make a 10 year mistake that had cost him $10million.  That mistake was that he had forgotten to ask his customers to make testimonial videos or comments after they had purchased his products and services.  Mike reckons he could have earned $10million more had he remembered to do that simple task.  He is now trying to catch up all those years, and money, lost.

OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

Sometimes all you need to start your fortune is one good idea!

The more you expose yourself to good content about your online business the more chances you will have of coming across an idea that once coupled with a certain ability of yours can become very profitable for you.

You might see an opportunity where others might not see one, because you have the necessary skills to accomplish it.

By constantly learning, discussing, reading and experimenting the more likely you will come across an idea that might spark your imagination and thus make you very rich.

Conditions might be changing now, but for the last four decades, the Japanese

were known as the leaders in quality manufactured products.

In fact, what they were actually doing was leveraging the ideas of the Americans (electronics, automotives and other goods).   By improving on american ideas with their quality manufacturing and methodology, they quickly elevated themselves to an incredible leadership position.

OTHER PEOPLE’S CONTACTS

With this type of leverage, it’s not what you know but who you know.

Being introduced to just one key person can change the entire direction of your online business, and hence your life, forever.

Whom do you know who can introduce you to someone who can make a great website or video for your business for free or little money?  Whom do you know who can lend you the money needed to invest in a business opportunity?  Who do you know who can help elevate your internet business to new heights?

*Tip_  There now exists online social media networks, such as LinkedIn, which help you reconnect with acquaintances and map out all of your respective contacts. This enables you to locate people within your network of friends, whom you might not have know of otherwise, who have certain skills you might be interested in leveraging.

So now that you know the 7 types of leverage available to you in your online marketing business, set out to work as effectively and productively as possible with the help of others.

See you at the top!

How To Write A Great Article For Your Internet Marketing Business

So you’ve finally taken the plunge and decided to start your own internet marketing business!

Having studied the different marketing strategies available for promoting your new home-based internet business, you’ve come to realise that article marketing is an attractive, effective and low cost strategy for driving potential customers to your website.

However for most of you the thought of writing articles is enough to have you packing your briefcase and crawling back on your hands and knees begging for your old jobs back.

Although we have been trained throughout our school years to write papers, somehow it is by far one of the marketing strategies newbie online marketers put off the longest.

Let me put it in to perspective for you:  If you had a choice between writing an article thus building your own business and taking control of your own destiny versus not writing an article, going back to your old day job and being at the mercy of your employer’s whims…which would you choose?

Article marketing has long been the bread and butter of every Marketer.  However, with rumors circulating that Google might soon ban home-based businesses from marketing on Adwords, perfecting your Article Marketing skills is now wiser than ever.

To write a good article quickly and effortlessly, all you need to remember are a few methods and procedures you learned back in high school.

The number one tip to writing a great article is to always write an outline.  An outline will help you organise your thoughts and help you write a cohesive and structured article.

An outline helps you order your arguments and assures you don’t forget to include important points and prevents you from repeating yourself.  With an outline there’s no reason why you should stare at a blank Word page for hours wondering what direction to take with your writing.

As you would never leave for a trip without directions, nor would you start writing an article without knowing where you are heading.  Therefore it is imperative to have a solid outline when sitting down to write an article.

While drafting your outline, remember that there are three major parts to any article: the introduction, the body and the conclusion.  If there are any specific ideas or sentences that you deem especially important to include in your article, write those down in your outline as well.

Here is a quick example of how I like to map out my outlines:

TOP 3 MARKETING STRATEGIES FOR PROMOTING YOUR WEBSITE

Introduction

1.  Writing

1.1 Articles

1.1.1

1.1.2

1.2 Press Releases

1.2.1

1.2.1.1

1.3 Blog

2. Google Adwords

2.1 Keyword search

2.1.1 Keyword search tools

3. Video Marketing

3.1 Youtube

Conclusion

Ok, I’ve just done that really quickly to show you how I subdivide my outline when preparing to write an article.

In the introduction you will start in a manner that will grab your reader’s attention.  Then you will quickly summarize what it is you intend to cover in your article.

The body of the article will comprise of three key points (as illustrated by numbers 1,2,3 in the example above).  If within each key point there is more that one idea to elaborate on, subdivide that paragraph in to multiple elements and subdivide again if needed (1.1, 1.1.1, 2.1, etc…).  These are what we call sub topics and sub titles.  They should also be introduced by a great opening sentence that grabs the attention of your reader.

In the conclusion, you will wrap up your points and end the article with a final thought.

You see, it’s no more difficult than it was in high-school!

With a well-defined outline there is no reason for you to feel nervous writing.  With your “skeleton” outline, you will already know what you intend to write about and in what order.  All you need to do when writing the real thing is bulk out the paragraphs with content and facts.  The meat of the article so to speak.

You will probably have to write a draft or tweak your article a few times before you arrive at the finished product.  However, since you’ll be writing on a computer this will be so much easier than it was in the days of pen and paper.  After you’ve written a few articles, you will begin to notice how much faster you are at completing them.

Finally, as you are writing always make it a habit to reread what you have already written.  Make sure you have stuck to your outline.  It can be really easy to stray away from the outline once you start writing and ideas are flooding in.

If that’s the case, add your new ideas as sub topics in your outline.  This will ensure the idea is inserted in the correct place in the body of your arguments to flow coherently.

Remember that writing an outline is not a waste of time.  It will actually help you save time!

Find a way of illustrating your thoughts on paper that make sense to you and keep using that “skeleton” for all future articles.  It will prove to be a very helpful tool for you as you continue to grow your online marketing business.

Remember 10 good articles are better than 1 excellent article. Don’t worry about being a perfectionist.  Just be productive!
